Your flight lands in Palma de Mallorca - the island's capital. And that's convenient, because a visit to this lively city should not be missed during your holiday in Majorca. Palma de Mallorca has around 410,000 inhabitants, making it the largest city in the Balearic Islands (the city of Groningen has 230,000 inhabitants). Its most famous landmark is the imposing cathedral La Seu. The Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral is very impressive both from the outside and inside. And definitely worth a visit.

But there is so much more to do in Palma de Mallorca! A great destination for a sunny city break. The old centre is exactly what you expect from a Spanish city. Atmospheric, with authentic cosiness on every corner. Full of narrow streets with iconic Spanish tapas bars, photogenic alleys, colourful squares and, of course, the characteristic palm trees.

And if you like a solid day of shopping, this is the place to be. You will find long shopping streets full of Spanish boutiques and authentic shops in the city centre.

Departing from Groningen Airport Eelde, you'll land at Palma de Mallorca, really close to Playa de Palma. Playa de Palma is the island's most touristic resort, located between the capital Palma de Mallorca and El Arenal. Playa de Palma is 10 kilometres from the capital. This resort focuses purely on tourism. You will therefore find numerous eateries and shops along the promenade. There is a lot of activity and there are many different activities you can do here. From parasailing to jet-ski hire. And in the evening you can have an excellent party here in the many places of entertainment. The kilometres of sandy beaches are also suitable for children, as they slope gently into the water and there are many playgrounds. So there is something for everyone. 

Sommigen kiezen ervoor een volledige vakantie naar Playa de Palma te boeken, maar door de goede bereikbaarheid is een dagtrip naar de badplaats ook een zeer goed idee. Helemaal als je de drukte even wilt ontsnappen. En bovendien is touren in een huurauto over het eiland in alle vrijheid ook niet verkeerd! En als je dan toch al die auto hebt gehuurd, breng dan ook eens een bezoek aan de stranden Playa de Formentor, Es Trenc, Caló des Moro of de gouden baaien van Cala d’Or. 

Some choose to book an entire holiday to Playa de Palma, but due to its easy accessibility, a day trip to the resort is also a very good idea. Especially if you want to escape the crowds for a while. And besides, touring the island in a rental car in complete freedom is no bad thing either! And if you have hired a car, why not visit the beaches Playa de Formentor, Es Trenc, Caló des Moro or the golden coves of Cala d'Or?
