Airport Identity Card

Anyone working in the secure area of Groningen Airport Eelde must hold a valid Airport Identity Card.

Security Clearance

A Declaration of No Objection (VGB) from the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) is mandatory if you will work in the Security Restricted Area – Critical Part (SRA‑CP). Confirm with your employer if this applies. If approved, you will receive the VGB. Without a valid VGB you cannot receive an Airport Identity Card granting access to the SRA‑CP.

If you already hold a clearance, it must be less than four years old and linked to your current employer. Otherwise, a new clearance is required.

Security Awareness Training

Completion of the Security Awareness e‑learning is required. It introduces safety risks and airport protocols. Study the Safety & Security Handbook before taking the exam. The e‑learning must be fully completed before you can take the test.

To get access, email the Airport Operations Service at ops@gae.nl. Once access is granted, you can begin the e‑learning via the provided link.

Test and Issuance

After completing the e‑learning, you take a multiple‑choice test under supervision at the Airport Authority office. You must score at least 80 per cent to pass. Once successful, a photo is taken and your Airport Identity Card is issued.

Bring the following documents:

  1. A signed and correctly completed employer’s declaration, free of corrections;
  2. A valid passport or national identity card (driver’s licence is not accepted);
  3. The VGB, if applicable for SRA‑CP access.

Appointment at Airport Authority

The test and card issuance occur by appointment only. Schedule this in advance with Airport Authority.

Loss or Theft of Airport Identity Card

Loss or theft must be reported immediately to Airport Operations. Replacement cards can be requested. The replacement fee is 50 euro.
