This Privacy Statement applies to:

• Parties from whom we purchase business and/or services.
• Travellers, visitors and parties based at Groningen Airport Eelde.
• Visitors to our website.
• Participants of one of our (win) actions and/or surveys.
• Persons with whom Groningen Airport Eelde shares other information via social media, newsletters or email.

Groningen Airport Eelde is explicitly not responsible for the data processing of third parties based at Groningen Airport Eelde and/or third parties that use our website via a hyperlink. For processing of personal data of these third parties, we refer to the relevant privacy statements of these parties.

To carry out our activities in the best possible way, we need personal data. Personal data processing is done on the basis of bases as set out in the Privacy Act. Prior to the processing of personal data, the purpose of the processing is established. In doing so, we distinguish several purposes. These purposes are:

Meeting legal obligations, performing tasks in the public interest and ensuring safety

Groningen Airport Eelde is charged by the government with carrying out security and border controls of passengers, baggage and working persons at the airport. To be able to carry out these checks properly, we process personal data. For example, we use cameras on the airport grounds and we are obliged to submit persons working at the airport to a security screening by the AIVD.

Besides Groningen Airport Eelde, other parties located at the airport also process personal data to fulfil these purposes, for instance the Royal Netherlands Military Constabulary, Customs, the party hired for security checks and the Airport Shop (to be allowed to sell duty-free items).

Execution of agreements

In order to offer our services in the best possible way, processing of personal data is necessary. In some cases, we use third-party services for this purpose or process personal data on behalf of third parties, e.g. airlines. This includes the following processing:

• Checking in passengers
• Carrying out parking space bookings
• Carrying out payments
• Communicating with our suppliers and customers
• Delivering (or having delivered) delayed or lost luggage

Providing information and improving our services

If you contact us to request information or make a complaint, we may keep this complaint or question. In order to handle the question or complaint correctly, we may need more personal data. We will then ask you to share more personal data with us. We will not use this personal data for purposes other than the correct handling of the question or complaint.

Performing and improving our services

By combining and analysing personal data, we can:

• perform our business processes, for example facilitating passenger arrivals and departures and processing baggage flows;
• optimise and improve our customer contacts and complaints handling;
• ensure better security on the airport grounds, for example by using camera images. When entering the airport grounds, you will be alerted to the presence of camera surveillance;
• report our analyses and insights for statistical research so that we can better meet the needs of our target groups.

When analysing, we will use only the personal data we need. As far as possible, we will aggregate data at a certain level of abstraction, encrypt it or make it anonymous.

Operation of online services such as the GAE website, the online parking system and social media

• If you want more information about the airport and the services we offer, you can subscribe to our electronic newsletter. By subscribing, you consent to us using your e-mail address to send you the newsletter and other information such as offers. 
• You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link at the bottom of each electronic newsletter. 
• During your visit to our website, cookies are created and accessed by our systems. A cookie is a compact piece of information stored on your computer. By setting it, the server will recognise your previous visit and keep track of what you have done on our website in the past, allowing our website to function in the most optimal and relevant way.

Based on visitor flows, it is possible, for example, to find out which web pages are popular and which parts need adjustment. Groningen Airport Eelde uses Google Analytics and Hotjar cookies. Personal data are not visible and are not stored. Hotjar cookies delete themselves after one year. For more information about cookies, please refer to our cookie statement.

• Groningen Airport Eelde uses social media access, provided by visitors or customers, which allows Groningen Airport Eelde to access (part of) your data on those social media, via so-called tracking cookies. To be able to show you personalised ads when you visit social media (e.g. Facebook), search engines (e.g. Google) or other websites or apps, we may match your email address or other identifying data with data from that social media or search engine. This is always done in encrypted and anonymised form. For more information and for the possibility to opt out of cookies, please refer to our separate cookie statement.
• Just like any other website, Groningen Airport Eelde processes IP addresses of website visitors. An IP address is a number that allows computers on the network to identify your computer, so that data can be sent to your computer. We use IP addresses to manage the website and make it as relevant as possible.
• It is possible to reserve a parking space with us online. The personal data you provide will be used to execute the reservation and settle payment. In addition, anonymised personal data may be used for static purposes.
• To log in to the access portal for Wifi, you must accept the Terms of Use of 'SpotOn Wifi at Groningen Airport Eelde' and give us explicit permission to use this information to send you our newsletters and voucher codes. In addition, your data are shared with SpotOn Wifi to enable the free Wifi service.

Conducting win actions and promotional activities

Groningen Airport Eelde processes personal data to carry out win actions and promotional campaigns. Among other things, personal data are necessary to notify participants. Personal data submitted to take part in our competitions will not be shared with third parties or used for other purposes. For more information, please refer to the terms and conditions of relevant win actions.

Groningen Airport Eelde shares your personal data with the following persons and/or bodies:

• Relevant parties entrusted with personal data processing tasks such as airlines.
• (Sub)processors engaged by Groningen Airport Eelde to carry out certain tasks relating to the processing of personal data, for example delivering checked baggage on behalf of Groningen Airport Eelde.
• The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee and Customs to the extent necessary for the performance of its duties in the context of border crossing.
• Government bodies, such as the police and the judiciary, to the extent necessary to comply with legal obligations.

International transfer of data
Groningen Airport Eelde transfers personal data to authorities outside the EU in certain cases, but ensures that this is done in accordance with legal requirements. Government authorities at points of departure and arrival may require this in connection with security, border passage, immigration anti-terrorism or other purposes that these authorities consider important.  

Your rights
If you would like to know what data Groningen Airport Eelde holds about you and for which purposes these are processed, please contact us at info@gae.nl. Besides viewing your personal data, you can also use this e-mail address to request us to change or delete personal data or to object to their processing.

Your data
Groningen Airport Eelde will make every effort to ensure that personal data that are processed are correct and accurate. We will not process more personal data than necessary. Personal data of data subjects will not be kept by Groningen Airport Eelde any longer than necessary for the purposes for which they were collected or are further processed. An appropriate retention period has been and will be set by Groningen Airport Eelde for the various processing of personal data.

Furthermore, Groningen Airport Eelde makes every effort to optimally secure your personal data against loss and unlawful use. For instance, we use a secure SSL connection if you reserve a parking space via our website.  

All employees of Groningen Airport Eelde who gain knowledge of personal data within the framework of their duties are obliged to observe confidentiality. Your data will only be provided to third parties if this is necessary for the execution of the aforementioned purposes. Groningen Airport Eelde enters into a processing agreement with parties that are responsible for providing certain services, or part of them, to ensure that these parties also provide optimum protection of personal data and comply with the privacy legislation.
