Royal Military Police establishes command group at Groningen Airport Eelde
Eelde 27 November 2023 - The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) Brigade Noord Nederland will establish itself at Groningen Airport Eelde (GAE) from today. The KMar is already active at the northern airport, but has now decided to also establish itself at GAE with its command group (brigade leadership).
KMAR monitors the security of the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and is deployed at places of strategic importance, including airports. KMAR is the part of Defence whose responsibilities include border control and public order and security at international airports and seaports.
KMAR consists of a staff, its own training centre and a National Tactical Command.
"We are very happy to establish the command group and part of our support department at GAE. The move will make cooperation with the airport even better than it already was. Also, we are close to public administration. In case of calamities or incidents at the airport, the lines of communication are short", says Arjan Batelaan on behalf of KMar Brigade North Netherlands.
It allows the KMar to establish itself in the northern region. This increases visibility and support towards other operational teams of KMar elsewhere in the region.
At the airport, people also welcome the arrival of the brigade leadership:
"With this, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee is investing in security at our airport, we are very happy about this," said Meiltje de Groot, director of Groningen Airport Eelde.
