Noorderpoort ‘Aviation service provider’ course gets permanent place at Groningen Airport Eelde | NXT Airport

Noorderpoort's ‘Aviation Service Provider’ mbo course will move to Groningen Airport Eelde in early 2025. Starting from the new calendar year, the approximately 120 students will be taught four days a week at the airport and another day at Euroborg, where the course is currently located. The reason for the move is that the airport offers many opportunities to train students for their profession of the future in an inspiring and context-rich environment. It also fits with the philosophy of the NXT Airport Campus.

Alidston Munting, teammanager at Noorderpoort:

‘Our students are already being taught at regular intervals at the airport,’ he says. ‘They like that very much. This way, they really learn their trade in practice; in a realistic environment. Because they have to deal with real passengers whom they welcome in the departure hall, for example, and whom they speak to and help with questions. Actually, there is no better place in the area to lay a solid foundation for their future career. That is why it is great that we will have a permanent place at the airport.’

Education and business cooperation at and around airport

Cooperation with the airport goes beyond just ‘moving in’. It offers numerous other cooperation opportunities.

Munting:

‘The connection from our education with the business world is very important to us at Noorderpoort, and working together with colleague educational institutions. At Groningen Airport Eelde, we also want to actively participate in everything that happens at and around the airport from different educational institutions - from a HUB perspective. In this, great things are already happening and in the future this can only be expanded further.’

At the airport, for example, Noorderpoort is active in the field of hydrogen together with the Alfa-college, and more and more beautiful partnerships are emerging between disciplines, educators and the business community. This is in line with the philosophy of the NXT Airport Campus. The campus focuses on providing a unique context-rich, inspiring learning environment where students and educational institutions can cooperate, research and innovate with each other and with companies in the field of sustainable mobility, energy, innovation, safety and aviation of the future. For mbo, hbo and scientific education. That education at the airport is successful is shown by the fact that the KLM Flight Academy has been based at Groningen Airport Eelde since 1954.

NXT Airport Campus

Jonas van Dorp, Manager Commerce & Business Development at Groningen Airport Eelde is very pleased with the development:

‘We have been working hard with Noorderpoort to establish the Aviation Service Provider course at the airport and are very proud that we are jointly realising this! In doing so, we are laying a very solid foundation under our NXT Airport Campus.’

NXT Airport is the airport's programme focusing on innovation, sustainability, energy and education.

Van Dorp:

‘The training will be in the main building of RLS1957, which for decades housed the National Aviation School. A beautiful and very fitting location for this training on our airport grounds.’

It is the airport's ambition to further expand with its partners into a full-fledged education cluster for vo-mbo-hbo and university.
